You’ve tried to forget, but you can’t shake Gangnam Style. So give in and dance all night to catchy, high energy K-Pop, K-Rock, K-Indie, and K-HipHop music videos at Elysium. Demographics, a local entertainment company aiming to infect Austin with K-Pop fever, will DJ for the event.
The South Korean music movement has produced groups of singing and dancing acts in shiny, colorful outfits with rabid fans. But the word “K-Pop” also encompasses other genres of music with less glitter and equally dedicated fanbases. Since it’s leap into Japan, K-Pop has grown from a music genre to a subculture among young adults and teens in East Asia. And in the past few years, Austin has caught onto the Korean wave. In 2013, K-Pop band f(x) performed at South by Southwest, becoming the first of the genre to do so.
So submit your song requests and hear the best South Korea has to offer from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday night. It’s also ladies night: no cover for women until midnight. Otherwise, the cover charge is $5. This event is 18 and up only.
