David Heymann at BookPeople. 7 p.m. Tuesday. 603 N. Lamar Blvd. 
Austin’s allure and its explosive growth are at the center of the pointed and funny stories in “My Beautiful City Austin,” David Heymann’s first book of fiction. The narrator, a young architect starting his own practice, struggles to understand why his clients want what they want — a retiring couple needs an immense home in the middle of nature, for instance — and why they want those things in Austin.

Urban Achievers Brass Band. Tuesday, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. 4001 N Lamar Blvd. New Orleans-style party band highlights part 2 of Central Market’s Mardi Gras celebration!

Texas Radio Live. Wednesday.  6:00 – 8:00 p.m. 1412 S Congress Ave. Guero’s brings you the very best Texas music, with performances from Texas Musicians. This week’s performers are Rich Hopkins & the Luminarios and Aaron McDonnell.

Cake: Rihanna Birthday Bash. Thursday. 10 p.m. 900 Red River. Cheer Up Charlies hosts a dance party for Rihanna’s 27th birthday. There will be cake.

‘The Lego Movie’ screening. Friday. 7 p.m. 12424 Scofield Farms Dr. Hosted by The Fellowship at Scofiled Farms, Community Night is open to everyone. Free pizza and movie every 3rd Friday of the Month!

Independence Brewing Co.’s Tasting Room Opening Party. Saturday. 1 p.m.-7 p.m. 3913 Todd Lane #607. Yes, the brewery’s already been opened for more than 10 years – what’s new is the renovated tasting room with expanded hours, more beers on draft and more places to sit.

Really Really Free Market. Sunday. 1 p.m.-3 p.m.  It’s like a garage sale, but everything is free. Bring a friend and bring your own bags.

Jungle Book’ screening. Sunday. 2:30 p.m. 2200 Hancock Dr. A family movie matinee hosted by the Austin Public Library – Yarborough Branch.

The Oscars Watch Party at Black Sheep Lodge. Sunday. 5:30 p.m.. 2108 S Lamar Blvd. There will be a red carpet, a ballot contest, trivia, and prizes (possibly big ones).
