A new photography exhibit at the Blanton Museum of Art features more than 35 photographs from Ralph Eugene Meatyard, including never-before-exhibited prints, exclusively drawn from the Ransom Center’s photography collection and archives of writers from Meatyard’s intellectual circle. “Wildly Strange” includes the artist’s acclaimed photographs of masked figures set against a deteriorating Southern landscape, as well his lesser known yet equally dynamic portraits of primarily American writers. In the late 1950s, Meatyard began staging elaborate visual dramas enacted by his wife, children and close friends. -Ari Auber
