Friday’s event pick: Flying Saucer’s 20th Anniversary Party

An Chih Cheng/AMERICAN-STATESMAN

When beer mecca Flying Saucer originally opened in 1995, the craft beer scene was very different. Even Real Ale Brewing in Blanco hadn’t opened its doors yet — and all of Austin’s other original 1990s-era breweries and brewpubs, with the exception of Live Oak and North by Northwest, are now gone.

With plenty of good beer to choose from now, Flying Saucer is celebrating 20 years in business with a big blowout that will include $2 Sierra Nevada Pale Ales.

Details: 5 p.m. Free. 815 W. 47th St. http://www.facebook.com/FlyingSaucerAustin.
