It befits the self-proclaimed “Live Music Capital of the World” to have a summer chamber music festival that’s not a typical summer chamber music festival. With the Austin Chamber Music Festival, genre-defying alt and indie ensembles are on the roster in equal measure with world-recognized string quartets.
The fest kicks off Friday with two shows at the North Door by Austin’s own Mother Falcon — the alt chamber orchestra of 20 classically trained young musicians on violins, saxophones, trumpet, piano, accordion, banjo, guitars, bassoon and cellos.
Details: Friday through July 19. Various venues. Tickets: $15-$50, $20-$55; student rush $12 cash at door. 512-454-0026, austinchambermusic.org.
