Saturday’s event pick: Texas Early Music Project’s “London City Limits: Opera on the Thames”

The next stop on Texas Early Music Project’s tour through European music will transport you to the stages and opera houses of 17th century London. The group of musicians — which includes six acclaimed soloists and a small period orchestra — is paying homage to Henry Purcell in a hilarious staged opera pastiche.

The Texas Early Music Project has woven a plot around music from Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen,” “King Arthur,” “Dido & Aeneas,” “The Tempest” and some of his songs and dialogues.

Details: 8 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Feb. 14. $5-$30. First Presbyterian Church, 8001 Mesa Drive. early-music.org.
