Wednesday’s event pick: “Love in the Sixties” at the Vortex

It's hard to have the blues when you chat with Aralyn Hughes. She can tapdance, paint a picture, tell a story, write a book, throw a costume party, drive an art car covered with pigs, remove a chewing gum stain from a pair of pants, and convince women to be their own boss and do what they want.

“Love in the Sixties,” the documentary about Austin’s so-called Queen of Weird, Aralyn Hughes, will have a special screening following film debuts at the Santa Cruz Film Festival, Portland Film Festival and Ellensburg Film Festival. The film follows Hughes for three years as she switches careers, becoming a performance artist after she was a successful businesswoman, a lobbyist at the Texas Capitol and the director of the first abortion clinic in Austin.

A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screening.

Details: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. $15. 2307 Manor Road. 512-478-5282,
