The charming musical produced by St. Edward’s University’s Mary Moody Northen Theatre centers on Amalia and Georg, two shop clerks in a 1930s European perfumery who fued constantly. They don’t realize they’ve both responded to a lonely hearts ad in the newspaper and begin to fall in love with their mysterious pen pal.
The 1963 musical, based on the Hungarian play “Parfumerie,” has been the basis for a few movies, including the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail.”
